WIND IN THE POPLARS - The speed of time

When I was a child, we often went on vacation in Switzerland where my mother was from. Actually, it seems that it was several times a year. Yverdon, where my maternal grandparents lived, lays at the end of the Lake of Neuchâtel. The banks of the river Thièle that spills itself into the lake are lined with poplars. There are rows of poplars in the fields nearby . Many of the two lanes roads on the outskirts of town are lined with poplars. The wind blowing thru these trees makes a soothing rustling sound. It is an inseparable part of my fondest memories.

Today I went for a walk in my neighborhood park. The third time around the track, I noticed a sound. It was the soothing rustling sound of the wind blowing in the trees. In a flash, my mind took me back in time. It was just a few seasons ago, I was on summer vacation, going to the local Farmers Market downtown Yverdon. My grandmaman always bought everything fresh, everyday. That was the way we did things then. Today, I have grandchildren of my own, Jacob is 9 years old, Samuel is 8 and Naomi "Mimi" is 19 months old. I want them to have precious memories of days together, for next week, next month, and when they grow up. That'll be tomorrow!!! Where did the years go? How can time go so fast? The older I get, the faster it goes. My grandparents use to say that to us grandkids.

Memories of my childhood, in the 50's, 60's,was it really that long ago?

What is our life? Nothing but a vapor says the Word of God. What will you do with your life?

Mom you are right all it takes is a sound, smell or touch to bring back memories. The only bad thing is we are unable to contro the type of memory, will it be a good or bad one. That is why we need to create as many good memories as we can so those will be the ones brought back. And, that we will be filled with happiness and joy.

Yes, it is so true.
It's my desire to help create good memories in my children's life and whatever chance I get in the lives of those around me. Sometimes we have only a few opportunities to do so for some people that pass thru our lives.
Memory is a funny thing. The mind is like a computer. It stores everything we put in. And like you say, you never know what can trigger a moment from the past to come up.
So let's build a memory bank of good memories.

You know what, by remembering the good things, these memories become the important ones. But I do get what you are saying, I'm not trying to make light of it.
Love you.

Hello, Catherine. I have enjoyed reading a few posts on your site this afternoon.

Ah, memories. They enable us to live again a distant part of our lives. Many delightful hours may be spent as our minds thread us through long ago joyful times. A second, or third...chance to enjoy such days.

Thank you for these words.

Thank you for visiting and commenting.
Thank you for the lovely way you describe such simple act.
Memory lane is good. We do have a choice on where we travel back when we decide to reminisce.
I'm glad you enjoyed my few thoughts. I'm just starting. I tried to follow your name but didn't get anywhere. I don't know you are the Shirley I'm thinking of.

Catherine ... after your left such a kind comment on my blog I had to come visit yours. It's just lovely. And you are so right about memories. I've made a point of doing special things with my grandchildren and know they will remember these special times -- walks through the San Pedro Riparian area not far from our home, trips to Tombstone or other local attractions. Thanks for reminding me of how special these things truly are.
